Pedaladda – pista ciclabile lungo il lago di Garlate
The work concerns a stretch of cycle / pedestrian path about 1 km in length which has allowed the redevelopment of otherwise interclosed state-owned areas, making it possible to enjoy an environment of value from a landscape and naturalistic point of view. The missing link in the territorial cycle network has therefore been created around the Lario and Garlate Lake basins, whose Lecco bank has thus become accessible to the public, you can reach the city of Milan along the Adda river. The main objective of the work is to improve the tourist usability, by inserting a path that, in addition to allowing access to the naturalistic territory, with particular attention to the reed bed area, in which it has been inserted. This aim was achieved by reducing the impact using natural and eco-compatible materials: for the embankment section, Cyclopean boulders laid dry were used, guaranteeing underground water circulation; the flooring was made of stabilized earth, thus constituting a low impact roof covering on the surrounding environment. The planting of native shrub and tree species, chosen in favour of the volatile species present and the use of a lighting system with photovoltaic LED lamps (whose orientation does not disturb the fish fauna during the scrub), complete the picture of eco choices. – compatible adopted. Particular attention was also paid to information and public participation, by installing illustrative signs; I was also installed n. 2 hydrometric rods to show the practicability conditions of the track in relation to the water levels near the lake.
Since its inauguration (23-04-2013) it has always been visited by many people. The uses have become multiple: walking, reading, bathing in the lake, solarium also thanks to the welcoming rest areas and access to the lake specially created.
The project received a special mention in the Architecture, Land and Landscape, Engineering category as part of the Best Practices for Lake 2014 award. The award was organized by UNESCO Chair Water Management and Culture – University for Foreigners of Perugia, ISPRA – GELSO database, Ministry of the Environment and Italian Hydrotechnical Association.
