Identify the key elements of sustainable tourism in your community: Start by researching the key factors that make tourism sustainable in your community. This may include things like minimizing the impact on the environment, promoting cultural understanding and appreciation, supporting local businesses and communities and ensuring that the benefits of tourism are fairly distributed.

Assess your current tourism practices: Once you have a clear understanding of what sustainable tourism looks like in your community, take a critical look at your current tourism practices. Are there areas where you can improve your sustainability efforts? Are there practices that are having a negative impact on the environment, culture or community?

Set sustainability goals: Based on your assessment, set specific, measurable, and achievable sustainability goals for your tourism business or organisation. These goals should align with the key elements of sustainable tourism in your community.

Develop an action plan: Create a detailed action plan for achieving your sustainability goals. This plan should include specific steps, timelines, and responsibilities for implementing sustainable practices in your business or organisation. Use SMART Goals Framework.

Monitor and evaluate progress: Regularly monitor and evaluate your progress towards your sustainability goals. This will help you identify areas where you’re succeeding and areas where you need to improve. Use this feedback to refine your action plan and continue to improve your sustainability efforts over time.
